Sibelius has rapidly become the world’s most popular music notation software and is now the choice of composers, musicians, music teachers and music students everywhere. Almost all of the leading music colleges and conservatories now use it, including the Royal Academy in London, the Juilliard School of Music in New York, Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Royal School of Music in Sweden.
Music Notation with Sibelius is a one-day workshop designed for • amateur and professional classical, jazz, traditional and popular musicians • composers • songwriters • music teachers/educators • and music students. It is intended both for those new to music notation software and Sibelius, as well as for users of other music notation software (such as Finale). Participants should have at least a good working knowledge of conventional notation in treble clef.
The workshop takes place in the New School’s music technology lab, on individual PC workstations equipped with Sibelius software and MIDI keyboards. By the end of the workshop you will be able to:
* Get around Sibelius, working with files, playback and navigation
* Set up a score and enter notes, text, chord symbols, etc.
* Use a MIDI keyboard to enter notes
* Use the various edit functions within the programme to refine and/or correct the notation
* Format score layouts in a variety of ways to suit different musical styles
* Save and print scores and individual parts for instrumental and other performers
* Listen to a computer approximation of the sound of your music
Participants should bring along a USB flash drive or CD-R for saving their work, as well as a notepad and pen.
